Start at the waterfront end of downtown. Make the Castillo the main visit, then keep lunch and a walk around the St. George Street area optional. This also works as a family afternoon if you skip extra attractions.

The King Street area makes a different outing from the fort end of downtown. Give the museum time instead of trying to combine both ends of the historic district in a short window.

Explore the museum's collections inside the former Hotel Alcazar. Make this the main stop for a rainy-day outing or a slower afternoon in the historic district, then add a meal if the group has energy.

Choose the restaurant first, confirm its current service or reservation arrangements, and use the city parking map to plan the approach. Keep the walk in the same part of downtown as dinner so the evening does not become a search for the car.
Allow the meal to be the main event. A walk through the historic district can be an extra when weather, daylight, and the group's energy suit it. If an evening in the historic district feels like too much, use the Crescent Beach dinner options instead.
For a longer day, leave a real break.
Combine the Castillo and Lightner only when the group wants a fuller sightseeing day. Put lunch and unplanned time between them, check both official visitor pages, and do not build a schedule around back-to-back admission times.
